A little bit about me

This picture is of me (Nicky), at my desk, working, with my fur baby Cinque keeping me company.

Along with the preparation I do (like here), I work with clients as a:

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’Ό counsellor & psychotherapist
🧘 mindfulness meditation teacher
πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ yoga instructor

I also work with groups in corporate workplaces, facilitating practical sessions for teams to refocus, reset, and recharge. This may look like mindful movement (think desk stretches, chair yoga, tai chi), mindful breath practices, mindful sensory and body awareness, and guided mindfulness practices to manage stress and overwhelm. Sessions are often customised to meet the needs of the people in the team.

I’ve recently been interviewed by Talked, a counselling services platform, and Meditation Australia, the peak body for meditation teachers in Australia.

You can read a little more about me in these interviews:

☘️ As a therapist on Talked, here.

My life work is to help people like you (and me) to function more fully, enabling you to enjoy this life, through living more in the present, with compassion for yourself and others.

☘️ If you, or someone you know, is struggling and needing some mental health support, or navigating a life transition, or grief, and loss, please do get in touch. I offer a 10 minute initial chat so you can ask any questions and check that we are the right fit, before booking a session.

☘️ It would be my privilege to work with you, walking alongside you, offering guidance from my training and skills, aligned with your unique personality and life experience. My approach is always one of collaboration. You know you better than anyone else. I help you to tune in to what you already know, and can offer strategies and tools to support the challenge, or change, you’re facing. If my approach resonates with you, please do feel free to reach out for a chat. Whether it is counselling, mindfulness meditation, yoga, or corporate sessions. I’m here to work with you, and for you.

I aspire to live my values which are connection, compassion, growth, health and joy.

Connection is my number one value which guides me in all the work I do, and the decisions I make.
In my work with clients:
πŸ‘©β€πŸ’Ό Connecting with individuals in counselling; helping them connect with themselves.
🧘 Connection in meditation with clients; becoming familiar with themselves (my favourite definition of meditation 'gom' from the Tibetan translation), and so connecting with the in-dwelling self.
πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ Connecting in yoga; through the asana (physical poses), with the body, the breath, and the inner self.

I instinctively bring compassion to all sessions I run, and complete acceptance of the whole person in the πŸ‘©β€πŸ’Όtherapy session, the 🧘 meditation session, or the πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ yoga class.

🌼 Supporting and fostering growth, which is innate in all of us - our natural tendency is to grow.
Carl Rogers (founder of humanistic psychology) proposed that for a person to "grow", they need an environment that provides them with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and understood). Source: Simplypsychology.org. This is my intention as I work with all of my clients.

Health and joy round out this mix, offering additional compass points in my daily life and work. These values offer guidance in the decisions I make, to live in a way which is most meaningful and purposeful to me.

When I work with you as a client, we establish your values and use tools to keep them front of mind, guiding your way to a richer life. Much of my work with clients encompass the ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) philosophy, as described helpfully by Russ Harris, ACT Therapist and trainer.

β€œA = Accept your thoughts and feelings and be present. C = Connect with your values. T = Take effective action.
